Xnovo PhD prize awarded at Danscatt 2025

At the Danscatt 2025 annual meeting, CEO Erik Lauridsen presented the award for the best Danscatt PhD thesis 2025.

The prize was awarded to Jia Guo, who received his PhD from Aalborg University in January 2024 for his PhD thesis entitled “Aging mechanisms of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicle applications”, supervised by Daniel-Ioan Stroe and Kjeld Pedersen. In his PhD project, Jia Guo used in- and ex-situ XAS and XRD, conducted at the BESSY II and DESY synchrotrons, to establish correlations between fuel-cell electrochemical performance, electrode structural evolution, and atomic-scale transformations, providing insight into strategies for extending battery lifetime. Jia Guo is currently at the University in Århus, where he is using in-situ synchrotron XAS to study sodium-ion batteries in the group of Dorthe Ravnsbæk.

The prize-winner presented his work at the Danscatt 2025 meeting, hosted by Syddansk Universitet – University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

The PhD award is sponsored by Xnovo, to encourage new young talents within the field of x-ray and neutron science.
